Ozark

OZARK…Mr. Edward Kirkland, a resident of Ozark, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in Dale Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.  He was 89.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 19, 2021, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Adams officiating and a eulogy to be given by his grandson, Josh Kirkland. Burial will follow in Concord Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, Alabama 36303.
Ed was born January 23, 1932. His parents were Nora Lee Kirkland Condrey and Herbert Condrey. He graduated from Abbeville High School and attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship. He later received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Troy University. Ed had a long career with Alabama Power Company from 1952 until 1989. After retirement, he began a second career with Troy State University from 1991 until retiring in 20l2.

Ed married Mary Welch, his sweetheart, on July 24, 1954. They had two children, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. From then on, he was known as Gaddy.

Ed was truly a man of faith. He loved his Lord first and foremost. He loved and mentored his family with all he had. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ozark where he served in the choir.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Lee Kirkland Condrey and Herbert Condrey; sisters, Sarah Hodges, Imogene Matthews, and Sally Allen; great-granddaughter, Mckenzie Anne Kirkland.

Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Kirkland; son, Phillip E. Kirkland; daughter, Beth Human (Jeff); grandchildren, Josh Kirkland (Melissa), Aaron Kirkland (Crystal), Emily Long (Tra), and Heath Chancey; great-grandchildren, Noah Long, Sawyer Long, Collin Kirkland, Charlie Kirkland, Henry Kirkland, and Caleb Kirkland; sister, Christine York (Alton), two brothers, Sam Condrey (Jewel) and Kenneth Condrey; many nieces and nephews.
